The History
The common perception of being Greek entails wearing letters, attending meetings, and of course, going to parties. However, people who are part of the greek community know it is much more than that. Joining a fraternity is about making friendships that will last far beyond your college years, and at the same time, enhancing your personal development with commitments to scholarship, community service, and leadership. Being Greek enables you to be respected for your individuality amongst other individuals that share common goals and interests. Here are some major reasons to join a fraternity:
SUPERIOR GPA'S
On average, all-sorority and fraternity GPA's consistently matches and often exceeds the all-women’s, men’s, and campus averages.
HELPING HUMANITY
Fraternity and sorority members participate in countless hours of community service efforts and contribute annually to charitable organizations.
CREATING LEADERS
Greek men and women are involved in an array of campus activities, are often the visible campus leaders, and are the most enthusiastic supporters of University events.
NATIONWIDE NETWORK
Fraternity men and sorority women are offered networking opportunities between each other, through Greek Alumni for jobs assistance and advice, internship exposure and experience, and general direction when entering the work force. Plus you will also have long lasting connections with all associated organizations.

Why Rush Beta Chi Theta?
So, if going Greek is so beneficial, how do I know which fraternity to choose? That's a question that is probably the most perplexing for new students. What you must know is that different greek organizations have qualities that make them unique. Here are some reasons why we believe Beta Chi Theta has benefited our gentlemen:
BROTHERHOOD
Joining a brotherhood is all about creating friends for an eternity. For the past 200 years, fraternities have provided college men a "home away from home." As brothers work toward common goals, and enjoy campus life together, friendships and relationships are formed that last forever. Furthermore, for those new to the University of California, San Diego, we understand that coming to college can be a nervous experience, and having a group of guys whom you can trust to show you the "ropes" can be very beneficial.
Brotherhood is the foundation of Beta Chi Theta.
LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Beta Chi Theta provides you with the opportunity to be involved in leadership positions. Fraternity men are responsible for the success and expansion of their organization. Real life skills such as managing a budget, running an effective meeting, action plan development, goal setting, forecasting, and decision making are learned and improved by being involved in a fraternity. These skills will help you in the future as you enter the job market. Our Greek men are involved in an array of campus activities, they are visible campus leaders, and they are the most enthusiastic supporters of University events.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
A very rewarding aspect of fraternity life is being involved in service and philanthropy events. Collectively among our chapters, Beta Chi Theta donates 1000+ hours of community service every semester in areas ranging from food banks, under privileged families and children, the homeless, cancer, diabetes, school events, the environment, and many more. Our chapter sponsors major philanthropy events on campus, including DOCS (Doctors Offering Charitable Services), a non-profit organization dedicated to providing medical attention to those in need in the community. The average fraternity member participates in approximately 10 hours of service a quarter; while the brothers of Beta Chi Theta exceed this amount by participating in a minimum of 20. Working together on such events not only benefits worthy causes, but also fosters personal growth and greater unity among the brothers.
ALUMNI: AN EDGE IN THE JOB MARKET
The benefits of a fraternity do not end when you graduate; they continue even when you enter the job market. Every fraternity fosters alumni interaction. Alumni will provide you with support and guidance as they help you secure employment in your career path. Beta Chi Theta is one of the largest South Asian fraternities in the nation, and thus is rapidly expanding and fostering our alumni network, which spans across the nation with a database of connected fraternity members (Beta Chi Theta and associated organizations) totaling over 300 brothers.
GAINING AN ACADEMIC ADVANTAGE
A primary goal of Beta Chi Theta is to achieve academic excellence. Beta Chi Theta provides academic support opportunities such as time management workshops, tutoring and mentoring programs, and established study sessions. Our members are from a variety of backgrounds and thus can provide expertise in an array of majors. On average, all fraternity GPA's consistently matches and usually exceed the campus averages. Our organization will continue to strive to be one of the highest GPA's on campus.
SOCIAL INTERACTION
Beta Chi Theta is considered a social fraternity, and thus believes in community involvement - whether it be at the campus or nationwide level. First and foremost, our brothers constitute the primary connection in promoting social awareness. We hold national conventions every year so that our brothers are able to network and interact with different types of people who all share the benefits of being part of Beta Chi Theta. Our organization promotes interaction with other organizations as well- fraternities, sororities, academic organizations, service organizations, as well as cultural organizations. Also the California chapters of Beta Chi Theta hold a spring formal annually, promoting further social interaction. Social interaction is not only important in fostering personal growth, but will help you in achieving leadership positions later on in life - and thus is an important part of being a brother of Beta Chi Theta.
DIVERSITY
Beta Chi Theta has created an ever-expanding brotherhood with a strong base of brothers from all ethnicities, races and religions. From this diversity, the brothers of Beta Chi Theta share their own distinct experiences, values and cultures, further strengthening the character of each individual brother. Historically, our brothers are widely diversified, thus allowing Beta Chi Theta to benefit from different world views. In addition to this, we are academically diversified in an array of majors and disciplines, providing our brothers with an advantage during the school year and through our alumni. Finally, our brothers are not only involved with Beta Chi Theta: they participate in other organizations and activities such as Sangam, Venture Forth, Sikh Student Association, Hindu Student Council and many more. |
